A message from Chinese Fireworks
After more than 50 years in the fireworks business, founder Shay Popat is retiring after 31 wonderful years at 2 London Road, Sheffield.
However, the good news is the business will continue to be run and operated by the new owner, who is determined to offer the same personal service you have all enjoyed in the past along with the same top-quality fireworks and excellent prices.
Please note: the retail premises will close from 24th February 2026 and all sales will be online.
We are moving to online sales, which will be delivered to your door in Sheffield or anywhere across the UK available above a minimum expenditure. A new website will follow soon – a new chapter is born for Chinese Fireworks, and we hope you will continue to be part of it.

The need for explanation as to the whereabouts of one of the largest fireworks retailers In the country, is perhaps the biggest compliment which could be paid to a company. If imitation Is the sincerest form of flattery then Chinese Fireworks Co are certainly greatly admired. Many other retailers have started to sell fireworks, claiming to be a branch of their company, to cash in on the well-earned reputation, of product quality, staff competence and rigorous safety standards. However there is only one genuine name holder and this is situated In the Pagoda Bank, in Sheffield, which houses Its own mini China town The business began to a smaller degree in 1977, when Mr Shay Popat began selling Chinese Fireworks from his shop Wicker Grocers, at a time when Sheffield was completely unaware of the joys of this product. In 1987 Mr Popat and his father amalgamated the grocery and a post office to form The Chinese Firework Company. In 1996 they realised a need for larger premises, a better image and profile, space and a perfect building, by moving to their current address.
Their reputation for excellence precedes them, as they are notorious from John 0 Groats to Lands’ End. The company selects from the best of firework manufacturers, so that they only stock the best setters from China. A particular asset of the company is their excellent staff, who is trained to personally assist each customer and ensure that all their needs are catered for. This is certainly important as they have a wide range of customers with a variety of requirements, for instance one old lady who bought little whistling rockets for her pet budgie!
Indeed the product range is so vast, with over 350 varieties, that no-one can fail to be enchanted. They have rockets large enough for NASA and have single fireworks from 99p to £1000 display kits. The fireworks are not only available around the Bonfire Night season, but are instead appropriate for all occasions and can be bought all year round on an appointment system. They have supplied procession torches to the nudist society for a parade and fireworks to H. M. Prison Service, Buddhist Society, Chatsworth House, Sheffield City Council and Sheffield Arena.
